Soap FAQ'sAll of our soaps are handmade, hand cut, charmingly hand-wrapped and individually unique - the mark of quality craftsmanship that can't be matched by modern manufactured detergent bars.
Allow your handmade soaps to breathe by exposing them to air to contribute to the long lasting quality. A basket in the bathroom is a good place, too. Use a draining soap dish to hold your soaps so they do not sit in a puddle of water. The more your soap can dry out between uses, the longer it will last, and last and last... Do you use lye? Yes, we do use lye (sodium hydroxide). Is there lye in your soap? No. You see, you cannot make soap without it; neither handmade or commercial. However, properly formulated soaps no longer contain lye, as the chemical reaction has converted the alkali (lye) and the oils into "saponified" oils and glycerin - that valuable emollient that softens and moisturizes the skin. How long do your handmade soaps last? Our soaps are cured for one month to complete the hardening process, but how long a bar soap lasts really depends on how often you use it. Most customers tell us their bar lasts about a month when being used every day. Our COCOA BUTTER soap has a higher percentage of cocoa butter and tends to last even longer. Using a washcloth, loofah sponge or sea sponge to lather up will help your bar soap last longer, unless you are in a hurry to try another soap, than skip that step. When using one of our scrub soaps, be gentle. Just let the soap bar gently glide over your skin and let the natural exfoliant (oats, cornmeal) do the scrubbing. We formulated the bar to do the work, you just relax. We do not use chemicals to produce our all-natural, pure vegetable handmade soap so you will feel clean, yet moisturized. Our soaps are handcut and therefore each bar soap weight is approximated. We cut the Bath & Body sized soaps at about 5.2 oz. each and after 4 weeks of curing they weigh at the least 4.5 oz. each; as an added bonus, most weigh more. What color is the lather on the Evergreen Forest bar? Our soaps lather up white, big fluffy bubbles even though the bars themselves have natural color to them. You are going to love the suds! Are they tear free? All of our soaps are created to be super mild and gentle but they are soap, so do not get them into your eyes. |
